AWIPS images of GOES-12 6.5 \u00b5m water vapor images <em><strong>(above<\/strong><\/em>) revealed a well-defined axis of a deformation zone pivoting over the region that received the heaviest snowfall. The GOES sounder Total Column Ozone product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed values in the 350-400 Dobson Unit range <em>(bright green to red colors),<\/em> indicative of the lowering dynamic tropopause associated with the intensifying disturbance.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2008\/12\/081211_sounder_ozone_anim.gif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"GOES sounder Total Column Ozone product\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2008\/12\/081211_sounder_ozone_anim.gif\" alt=\"GOES sounder Total Column Ozone product\" width=\"479\" height=\"359\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES sounder Total Column Ozone product<\/p><\/div>\n<p>MODIS visible, 11.0 \u00b5m IR, and 6.7 \u00b5m water vapor images at 19:19 UTC <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed a narrow banding structure in place over the area where moderate to heavy snowfall was falling at the time.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2008\/12\/081211_modis_anim.gif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"MODIS visible, 11.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR, and 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2008\/12\/081211_modis_anim.gif\" alt=\"MODIS visible, 11.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR, and 6.7 \u00c2\u00b5m water vapor images\" width=\"480\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MODIS visible, 11.0 \u00b5m IR, and 6.7 \u00b5m water vapor images<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssec.wisc.edu\/modis-today\">SSEC MODIS Today<\/a><\/strong> true color imagery from the following day <em>(<strong>below<\/strong>, displayed using Google Earth)<\/em> displayed a large area where snow remained on the ground. The highest snowfall accumulations included <strong>9 inches<\/strong> at New Hebron in Mississippi and <strong>8 inches<\/strong> at Amite in Louisiana.
