The ice motion could be seen on consecutive 250-meter resolution Terra and Aqua MODIS <a title=\"true-color RGB images\" href=\"https:\/\/earthdata.nasa.gov\/data\/near-real-time-data\/faq\/rapid-response#rapid4\"><strong>true-color<\/strong><\/a> Band 1\/4\/3 Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images from the <a title=\"SSEC MODIS Today site\" href=\"http:\/\/ge.ssec.wisc.edu\/modis-today\/index.php?satellite=t1&amp;product=true_color&amp;date=2013_12_24_358&amp;overlay_sector=false&amp;overlay_state=true&amp;overlay_coastline=true\"><strong>SSEC MODIS Today<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A comparison of the Aqua MODIS true-color and Band 7\/2\/1 false-color RGB images <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> confirms that the brighter features seen along the western and southern nearshore waters were ice &#8212; ice and snow <em>(as well as clouds composed of ice crystals)<\/em> appear as varying shades of cyan in the false-color image, in contrast to supercooled water droplet clouds which appear as varyinng shades of white.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/12\/131224_modis_truecolor_falsecolor_lake_michigan_ice_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Aqua MODIS true-color and false-color RGB images\" alt=\"Aqua MODIS true-color and false-color RGB images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/12\/131224_modis_truecolor_falsecolor_lake_michigan_ice_anim.gif\" width=\"479\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aqua MODIS true-color and false-color RGB images<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a cold night (morning low temperatures of -24\u00c2\u00baF were recorded at several inland locations in Wisconsin, along with -12\u00c2\u00baF in northern Illinois), ice was seen forming in the western and southern nearshore waters of Lake Michigan on 24 December 2013.
