As daylight arrived a few hours later, the volcanic plume <em>(which contained some ash)<\/em> was evident on McIDAS images of 1-km resolution GOES-15 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel data <strong><em>(above; click image to play animation)<\/em><\/strong>. The high-altitude portion of the volcanic plume was estimated to be around 28,000 feet above sea level &#8212; this darker-gray plume could be seen drifting northwestward above the lower-altitude clouds over the southern Bering Sea.<\/p>\n<p>During the early morning, a warm thermal anomaly of 42.85\u00c2\u00ba C <em>(darker black enhancement)<\/em> could be seen at the location of the volcano on a 4-km resolution GOES-15 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel image at 14:45 UTC <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/06\/130625_G15_IRCH02_PAVLOF_1445Z.GIF\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GOES-15 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/06\/130625_G15_IRCH02_PAVLOF_1445Z.GIF\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-15 3.9 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even with a very large oblique viewing alngle from the Japanese MTSAT-2 satallite, the volcanic cloud and plume rising from the Pavlof Volcano <em>(denoted by the letter &#8220;P&#8221;)<\/em> could be seen on a visible channel image at 15:01 UTC <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/06\/130625_1501Z_MTSAT_VIS_PAVLOF.GIF\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/06\/130625_1501Z_MTSAT_VIS_PAVLOF.GIF\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" alt=\"MTSAT-2 visible image\" class \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MTSAT-2 visible image<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the Alaska Volcano Observatory, the Pavlof Volcano began to experience a vigorous eruption around 06:50 UTC on 25 June 2013.
