The Blended Total Precipitable Water (TPW) product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated that TPW values were as high as 20 mm or 0.79 inch over much of Arizona, which was in excess of 200% or normal for this time of the year. With unseasonably high moisture in place, these thunderstorms produced a daily record rainfall\u00c2\u00a0 of 0.84 inch at Phoenix, with several locations in the Phoenix area receiving over 1 inch of precipitation (<a title=\"Public Information Statement\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/03\/130308_psr_pns.text\"><strong>Public Information Statement<\/strong><\/a>). Hail up to 0.5 inch in diameter was reported &#8212; in some cases the hail accumulated to the point of totally covering the ground &#8212; and winds gusted to 45-55 mph at several locations.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/03\/130308_2015z_blendedTPW_percent_normal_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"Blended Total Precipitable Water and Percent of Normal Total Precipitable Water products\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/03\/130308_2015z_blendedTPW_percent_normal_anim.gif\" width=\"479\" height=\"284\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blended Total Precipitable Water and Percent of Normal Total Precipitable Water products<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition to heavy rainfall<em>, <\/em>hail, and damaging surface winds, there were several pilot reports of turbulence. Particularly noteworthy were a pilot report of <a title=\"Pilot report of severe turbulence\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/03\/130308_2015z_suomi_npp_viirs_ir_pirep.jpg\"><strong>Severe turbulence<\/strong><\/a> at an altitude of 28,000 feet, and a pilot report of <a title=\"Pilot report of severe to extreme turbulence\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/03\/130308_2201z_g13_ir_pirep.jpg\"><strong>Severe to Extreme turbulence<\/strong><\/a> at an altitude of 11,000 feet.
