click image to play animation)<\/strong><\/em> showed very high probabilities of IFR conditions at many inland locations, but also suggested that the fog\/stratus features were extending much farther off the coast.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/01\/130129_goes_ifr_prob_se_us_sea_fog_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"GOES-13 IFR Probability product (click image to play animation)\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/01\/GOES_IFR_PROB_20130129_1032.png\" width=\"480\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-13 IFR Probability product (click image to play animation)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During the daylight hours, McIDAS images of GOES-13 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel data <em><strong>(below; click image to play animation)<\/strong><\/em> showed that the near-shore sea fog did indeed persist for much of the day, especially off much of the Georgia and South Carolina coastlines.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/01\/130129_g13_vis_sea_fog_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"GOES-13 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel images (click image to play animation)\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/01\/130129_G13_VIS_SEUS_SEA_FOG_25.GIF\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOES-13 0.63 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel images (click image to play animation)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A comparison of the MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image and the corresponding MODIS Sea Surface Temperature (SST) product at 18:40 UTC or 1:40 PM local time <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the reason for the persistent sea fog: there was an onshore flow of air with dew points in the lower to middle 60s F, moving over the cooler near-shore waters with SST values in the lower to middle 50s F.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/01\/130129_modis_sst_vis_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image + MODIS Sea Surface Temperature product\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2013\/01\/130129_modis_sst_vis_anim.gif\" width=\"479\" height=\"390\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MODIS 0.65 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image + MODIS Sea Surface Temperature product<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An AWIPS image of the MODIS 11.0-3.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR brightness temperature difference &#8220;fog\/stratus product&#8221;
