in northern Illinois"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/12\/121230_modis_truecolor_falsecolor_lasalle_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MODIS true-color and false-color Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/12\/121230_modis_truecolor_falsecolor_lasalle_anim.gif\" width=\"480\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MODIS true-color and false-color Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A comparison of 250-meter resolution MODIS true-color and false-color Red\/Green\/Blue (RGB) images from the <a title=\"SSEC MODIS Today site\" href=\"http:\/\/ge.ssec.wisc.edu\/modis-today\/index.php?satellite=t1&amp;product=true_color&amp;date=2012_12_30_365&amp;overlay_sector=false&amp;overlay_state=true&amp;overlay_coastline=true\"><strong>SSEC MODIS Today<\/strong><\/a> site <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> revealed an interesting snow cover feature <em>(snow appears as white on the true-color image, and cyan on the false-color image)<\/em> surrounding a small body of water in northern Illinois<em> (just north of the cursor)<\/em> on <a title=\"30 December 2012 daily weather map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20121230.html\"><strong>30 December 2012<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A closer view of that area using Google Earth <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> indicated that the small body of water was the cooling pond of the LaSalle County Nuclear Generating Station.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 489px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/12\/121230_modis_truecolor_lasalle_google.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MODIS true-color image (displayed using Google Earth)\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/12\/121230_modis_truecolor_lasalle_google.jpg\" width=\"479\" height=\"357\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MODIS true-color image (displayed using Google Earth)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>An AWIPS image of the MODIS Sea Surface Temperature (SST) product <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed that SST values were as warm as 55.8 F in the cooling pond &#8212;
