A comparison of AWIPS images of the MODIS volcanic ash mass loading, ash height, and ash effective radius products <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> showed the volcanic ash plume about 1 hour and 40 minutes later (23:44 UTC). The products indicated that the mass loading was as high as 5.1 tons per square km, the maximum ash height was 7.92 km, and the maximum ash effective radius was 11.95 \u00c2\u00b5m.<\/p>\n<p>A comparison of a 23:43 UTC POES AVHRR 0.86 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image with the corresponding 12.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> showed no discernable signal of the volcanic ash plume.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120619_poes_avhrr_vis_ir_cleveland_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"POES AVHRR 0.86 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image + 12.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR channel image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120619_poes_avhrr_vis_ir_cleveland_anim.gif\" title=\"POES AVHRR 0.86 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image + 12.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR channel image\" width=\"480\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">POES AVHRR 0.86 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image + 12.0 \u00c2\u00b5m IR channel image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A 375-meter resolution Suomi NPP VIIRS 3.74 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR image <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> revealed a &#8220;hot spot&#8221; <em>(yellow to red color enhancement)<\/em> associated with the Mount Cleveland volcanic eruption.
