Note the appearance of a number of bright &#8220;pyro-cumulus&#8221; clouds near the fire source region, as the very hot fires produced intense updrafts to form large towering cumulus clouds. As an aside, it is interesting to note that there were still a number of large ice floes <em>(slow-moving brighter white features)<\/em> not far off the Labrador coast, which were drifting slowly northward during the day.<\/p>\n<p>McIDAS images of 375-meter resolution <em>(projected onto a 1-km AWIPS grid)<\/em> Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel data and 3.74 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel data <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> showed the large size of the fire &#8220;hot spot&#8221; <em>(yellow to red to black pixels),<\/em> in addition to the thick smoke plume.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120613_viirs_vis_swir_labrador_fire_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel and 3.74 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel  images\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120613_viirs_vis_swir_labrador_fire_anim.gif\" alt=\"Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel and 3.74 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel  images\" width=\"480\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel and 3.74 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR channel images<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A comparison of Suomi NPP VIIRS 3.74 \u00c2\u00b5m shortwave IR images from 12 June and 13 June <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> show how large the fire hot spot had grown in a day.
