On the following day (<a title=\"12 June 2012 daily weather map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/dailywxmap\/index_20120612.html\"><strong>12 June 2012<\/strong><\/a>), Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel images <strong><em>(above)<\/em><\/strong> revealed that the remaining snow cover could be seen through the patches of clouds that were moving over that region.<\/p>\n<p>A comparison of the 17:37 UTC <em>(12:37 PM local time)<\/em> Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel image with the corresponding 1.61 \u00c2\u00b5m near-IR &#8220;snow\/ice channel&#8221; image <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> confirmed that the brighter patch seen on the ground in the visible image was indeed snow cover <em>(which shows up as a much darker shade of gray than the surrounding bare ground areas)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120612_viirs_vis_nir_manitoba_snow_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image + 1.61 \u00c2\u00b5m near-IR image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120612_viirs_vis_nir_manitoba_snow_anim.gif\" alt=\"Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image + 1.61 \u00c2\u00b5m near-IR image\" width=\"480\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible image + 1.61 \u00c2\u00b5m near-IR image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Farther to the south, a MODIS Land Surface Temperature (LST) product image at 09:06 UTC <em>(4:06 AM local time)<\/em> on 12 June <strong><em>(below)<\/em><\/strong> showed widespread areas from far southern Manitoba into parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota that exhibited LST values at or just below freezing <em>(32\u00c2\u00ba F or 0\u00c2\u00ba C, darker blue color enhancement)<\/em>.
