AWIPS images of 375-meter resolution (projected onto a 1-km resolution AWIPS grid) Suomi NPP VIIRS 11.45 \u00c2\u00b5m IR and 0.64 \u00c2\u00b5m visible channel images <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> showed these storms before they moved over Fairbanks <em>(station identifier PAFA);<\/em> the coldest cloud-top IR brightness temperatures were -64\u00c2\u00ba C, and the larger storm actually exhibited an &#8220;enhanced-V&#8221; signature (with a cold\/warm thermal couplet differrence of 11\u00c2\u00ba C).<\/p>\n<p>A Fairbanks National Weather Service <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/06\/120604_pafg_sps.text\" title=\"NWS Fairbanks Special Weather Statement\">Special Weather Statement<\/a><\/strong> mentioned that the tops of the thunderstorms were around 40,000 feet.
