AWIPS comparisons of 1-km resolution Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.7 \u00c2\u00b5m &#8220;Day\/Night Band&#8221; images with the corresponding VIIRS 11.45 \u00c2\u00b5m IR images at 07:27 UTC or 2:27 am local time <em><strong>(above)<\/strong><\/em> and also at 09:08 UTC or 4:08 am local time <em><strong>(below)<\/strong><\/em> demonstrated how the Day\/Night Band imagery could be used to better visualize the individual cloud band structures of the bore. On the Day\/Night Band images, cloud features could be seen due to moonlight illumination, and bright areas of city lights were also very prominent.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/05\/120507_viirs_dnb_ir_2_anim.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" title=\"Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.7 \u00c2\u00b5m Day\/Night Band image + 11.45 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/satellite-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2012\/05\/120507_viirs_dnb_ir_2_anim.gif\" alt=\"Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.7 \u00c2\u00b5m Day\/Night Band image + 11.45 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image\" width=\"480\" height=\"489\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Suomi NPP VIIRS 0.7 \u00c2\u00b5m Day\/Night Band image + 11.45 \u00c2\u00b5m IR image<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This undular bore could also be seen on 4-km resolution GOES-13 10.7 \u00c2\u00b5m IR images <em><strong>(below),<\/strong><\/em> although the individual cloud band features were not as well-defined due to the coarser spatial resolution.
