This animation of GOES-13 visible channel images shows widespread smoke associated with large wildfires that were burning in parts of Idaho and Montana on 13 August 2007. Note the transition from smoke (from the previous day of burning) trapped in the valleys early in the day...to rapid smoke plume growth as southwesterly boundary layer winds increased and new fire activity flared up later in the day.
