This animation of GOES-12 10.7 micrometer IR (channel 04) images shows the development of severe convection along the Texas/Mexico border region on 24/25 April 2007. This particular storm produced hail up to 2.75 inches in diameter, wind gusts to 76 mph, and the tornado that killed 10 people (and injured as many as 120) in the Eagle Pass, Texas / Piedras Negras, Mexico area. The GOES-12 satellite was in Rapid Scan Operations (RSO) at the time, providing imagery at 5-minute intervals during much of the event. An enhanced-v signature became apparent about 30 minutes prior to the first SPC storm reports in Texas (storm reports are plotted in cyan).
