This animation of GOES-11 11-12 micrometer IR difference (channel 04 - channel 05) + GOES-12 visible (channel 01) images shows the development of a subtle blowing dust plume across the southern Texas panhandle region on 01 March 2007. Note how the dust plume is barely detectable on the visible channel images, while the 11-12 micrometer IR difference product shows a distinct dust signal (dark enhancement). No surface stations in the area reported blowing dust during the time period shown; visibilities did drop to 2-4 miles at Big Spring TX (station identifier KBPG), but remained at 9-10 miles at San Angelo TX (station identifier KSJT).
