This animation shows the various "water vapor channel" images from the GOES-12 imager (6.5 micrometer channel, upper left panel), MODIS (6.7 micrometer channel, upper right panel), and GOES-12 sounder (7.0 micrometer channel, lower left panel; 7.4 micrometer channel, lower right panel) on 05 February 2007. The map overlay has been removed from the imagery to demonstrate that the coastal outlines of the western Great Lakes and also the Northeastern US can be seen at times during this period, due to the very cold and dry arctic air mass that was present over those regions.
