FXUS63 KBIS 251030 AFDBIS Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Bismarck ND 430 AM CST Mon Nov 25 2024 [...] The steady northwest breeze, coupled with the cold sfc temperatures and water temperatures on Lake Sakakawea in the mid/upper 40s, has resulted in low level lake effect stratus streaming southeast of the lake the past several hours. While we have unidirectional northwest winds, rather shallow mixed layer with the capping inversion near to slightly below 900mb, so not really supportive of lake effect snow. Lake-induced CAPE is marginal/decent though, and earlier did see what appeared to be very light snow on the Whiteshield DOT cam. Thus, will keep a slight chance of light snow within the stratus layer. With northwest winds being maintained today, along with highs only in the teens south central, opted to keep the lake effect clouds and slight chances for light snow in the forecast through the early afternoon.
