In the mean time, sharply colder air is expected to change the rain across southern New England and the interior northern Mid-Atlantic to a period of sleet and freezing rain today before possibly ending as some snow flakes tonight. Farther inland, remaining snowfall accumulations are expected to range from a couple of inches across the interior Northeast to a little over 6 inches across eastern Maine. Ice accretion of a quarter of an inch is possible from interior southern New York through interior southern New England.
