Here are a few examples of ProbSevere v4 output. Please note that reports are valid for the 45 minutes <em>after<\/em> the image time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"720\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1280 \/ 720;\" width=\"1280\" controls src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/ps_wind1_20260523.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">ProbSevere v4 probabilities (contours), NWS severe weather warnings (orange and red polygons), preliminary storm reports in the next 45 minutes (points\/circles), and MRMS MergedReflectivity (background).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Louisiana, PSv4 initially did an excellent job predicting a couple of clusters of storms that produced severe wind gusts. As time went on, the intensity of the line diminished in eastern Louisiana, as did the probabilities. However, the model still outperformed the tree-based PSv3. The marginal environment and the shape of the storm itself helped produce probabilities higher than PSv3 and before a NWS warning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"660\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/KY.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/KY.png 660w, https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/KY-300x234.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">ProbSevere v4 probabilities (contours), preliminary storm reports in the next 45 minutes (points\/circles), and MRMS MergedReflectivity (background).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>An hour prior in northwest Georgia, a storm cluster went unwarned but produced 4 wind damage reports. The shear was marginal (25 kt EBShear) and the lightning activity was low (max of 6 fl\/min). Though the PSv4 probabilities were somewhat low (small maximum > 25%), it still captured the event while correctly keeping probabilities &lt; 10% on neighboring cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"638\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/GA1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/GA1.png 638w, https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/probsevere\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2026\/05\/GA1-300x198.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">ProbSevere v4 probabilities (contours), preliminary storm reports in the next 45 minutes (points\/circles), and MRMS MergedReflectivity (background).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Later in Georgia, there was a strong false alarm area. There were no warnings and no reports. There were reports in southern Georgia an hour prior, but this northward-moving convective cluster did not produce severe weather into the evening hours. The environment was similar to other examples, with the PWAT being a bit higher (2.3 in vs. 2.0 in).
