This loop of GOES-8 visible imagery shows the areal extent of the snow cover on the following day (12 December 1998). As the snow began to melt during the afternoon hours, the edges of the snow pack eroded inward. Most stations reported 2-4 inches of snow cover at 12:00 UTC on 12 December (due to settling of the heavy, wet snow during the overnight hours). [Note: the report of 30 inches was at Fort Davis, at an elevation of 6790 feet in the Davis Mountains].
