Hold any mouse button down as you move the cursor across the large GOES-8 visible image; the smaller inset window shows the corresponding GOES-8 10.7 micron longwave IR image. In the visible image, the large eye of Hurricane Mitch is well-defined; the 10.7 micron IR image shows that cloud top temperatures around the eye-wall region were below -80 C (black to brown enhancement), with the coldest temperatures within the southern semicircle of the storm.
