This loop of GOES-8 10.7 micron longwave IR imagery shows convection at 3-hour intervals from 11:45 UTC on 14 September to 11:45 UTC 15 September 1998. The strong convection that persisted around 30 N latitude, 70 West longitude was likely due to enhanced convergence from the low-level mesoscale vortex, as well as upper-level diffluence within a deformation zone northeast of the stationary upper cyclone.
