(Animation)

This GOES-8 0.65 micron visible imagery shows a widespread smoke pall over the Gulf of Mexico. This pall formed as smoke plumes from biomass burning across southern Mexico and parts of Central America drifted northward and collected over a period of days. The areal extent of smoke coverage shown above is much greater compared to that observed in mid-February.
