CSPP Geo ABI Flood Mapping Version 1.0 Release
23 Jan 2026
The initial Version 1.0 release of the ABI Flood Mapping (AFM) software package retrieves floodwater fractions by processing GOES-R ABI data in near real-time, generating maps showing the extent of flooding for the current day.
- Supported inputs: GOES-16, -17, -18, or -19 ABI Level 1B files.
- User-definable areas of interest.
- Hourly and daily composited flood mapping files are generated in NetCDF4, PNG, GeoTIFF, and a zip file containing shapefiles.
Basic instructions, usage examples and documentation can be found in the Software Users' Guide on the CSPP Geo Downloads page. The software package is self-contained; installation of additional third-party software is not required.
System Requirements:
This software has been tested on both Intel and AMD CPUs, and on Rocky 8 and 9 Linux (or other compatible 64-bit Linux distribution).
To process data from both the GOES-East and GOES-West satellites in near real-time, the following system was found to be sufficient in our testing:
- 3.2Ghz, 16 core, 32 GB RAM
- 35 GB of disk space for roughly 30 days of product storage, or more if long-term storage is desired. This does not include storage of input data.
