The picture of the week is being selected by the honor students in the class and myself. This week the winner is Joanna Gurstelle for her picture of the Colorado Rockies. Notice the different surface conditions that exist in this picture. From bare rock to forest. This has relevance to our classroom discussion. Due to differences in specific heat and evaporation, there will be a large variation in surface temperature across this scene. Joanna was at an altitude of 14,309 feet when she took this picture. Notice that at a certain altitude the trees stop growing. This occurs at approximately 10,000 feet.
