AOS 454 ATMOSPHERIC TECHNOLOGY

Each group has been assigned a specific application to study using infrared observations (3 to 15 microns) from a geostationary platform.  Your assignment is to design some characteristics of a narrowband IR radiometer to use in your study.  First determine the best spectral regions for your application.  Then determine the temperature range and accuracy required so that you can select the appropriate noise level.  You should also determine a reasonable range of spatial resolutions required to complete your study successfully. Once you have done that, and proposed it to me, you can then begin designing your IR system.  You need to determine the size of the scanning mirrors, size of the detector, dwell or sampling time, IFOV, central wavenumber, and spectral bandpass.  To run the design software you have to enter a number in each box and press "enter" (the return will send you to the next box)--the final entry will compute the NeDR (you might want to convert it to a NeDT) and the minimum IFOV that you can use.  Good luck.
