WVSS-II Validation Experiment, Louisville, KY UW-CIMSS AERIbago 10 November 2006, 0000 UTC - 1200 UTC Location: Kentucky Air National Guard at KSDF Operators: K. Bedka, T. Wagner http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/wvssii/ Weather conditions: Mainly clear with air temperatures dropping from the low 60s to low 50s. Again, relatively high surface dewpoints resulted in heavy dew and patchy fog. Strong (~7 C) radiational inversion inversion immediately above surface. Thin cirrus clouds near 250 mb. Winds were light and variable. Instrument status: AERIbago: All systems operating normally. Radiosonde: Operating and archiving. 3 radiosonde launches completed today: 0348 UTC, 0734 UTC, 1039 UTC were all successful launches with the 1039 UTC being terminated manually above 150 mb All three launches moved from original scheduled times (0340, 0710, 1030) to accommodate needs of UPS and Air Traffic Control. Science/Miscellaneous: Tomorrow should be interesting with a good chance of thunderstorms. Let's hope for some higher water vapor content for WVSS-II to sample! Thanks to Randy Baker for optimizing balloon launch schedules with highest possible WVSS-II-equipped aircraft matches. Sonde data should be viewable via the NOAA ESRL (formerly FSL) ACARS data viewer.
