This animation of GOES-12 visible (channel 01) images shows thick plumes of smoke emanating from 2 large fire complexes burning in southeastern Georgia on 02 May 2007. Note the appearance of a small cloud shadow late in the animation over the point source of the largest (westernmost) smoke plume -- this was due to pyrocumulus towers that developed and rose to significant heights over the very hot fire region, casting late afternoon shadows on the thick smoke below.
