WAVETRAK - Product Description
Wavetrak mosaics are generated utilizing geostationary satellite imagery and overlaid satellite derived low-level cloud-drift winds. The cloud-drift winds are created by a combination of both visible and infrared imagery. In order to track the low-level circulations associated with tropical waves, only cloud-drift winds between 600-925 mb are utilized in the mosaics.

The Atlantic sector is covered by the GOES-10, GOES-8, METEOSAT-7 and METEOSAT-5 satellites. The Pacific sector of Wavetrak is comprised of coverage by the METEOSAT-5, GMS-5, GOES-10, and GOES-8 satellites.

The GOES satellite winds are produced at the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS) using algorithms developed at UW-CIMSS. The METEOSAT and GMS-5 satellite winds are produced at UW-CIMSS.
