Cultural Connections to Remote Sensing
Satellite Remote Sensing is a relatively young science, barely spanning two generations of human history, and as such, lacks the wealth of cultural connections typical with other Earth science topics. However, the ability to view human artifacts and landscapes remotely can contribute significantly to the study of cultural change and human perceptions as they relate to the landscape. Remote sensing analysis offers additional stories about terrain changes not necessarily provided through cultural anthropology or folklore. These stories can provide important insights into cultural change and culture–landscape relationships.
