CIMSS scientists win NOAA Awards

CIMSS is pleased to announce that two NOAA scientists stationed at CIMSS have been awarded NOAA Medals in 2011 for their exceptional work.

Dr. Jim Kossin, also a University of Wisconsin-Madison AOS adjunct professor, is part of a team receiving a NOAA Gold Medal for excellence in research and data stewardship leading to a more confident assessment of the influence of human-induced climate change on hurricanes.

Tim Schmit, a NOAA employee stationed at CIMSS, is a co-recipient of NESDIS' only 2011 Silver Medal (along with CIRA scientist Don Hillger) for revolutionizing NOAA Science Tests for geostationary satellites, significantly reducing the likelihood of a single satellite configuration. For more information about this award, please read the announcement on the NOAA STAR (Center for Satellite Applications and Research) website.
