Research

CIMSS personnel are also involved in flight support, instrument calibration and data processing of the MODIS Airborne Simulator (MAS) instrument, a 50 channel spectrometer that measures reflected solar and thermal emitted radiation from the shortwave visible (.5 microns) through the longwave infrared (14 microns).  The 19 MODIS-like channels and high altitude platform (NASA's ER-2) allow MAS to perform as a surrogate to MODIS in order to test MODIS algorithms pre-launch. 

On site mission and forecasting support has been provided by CIMSS during selected MAS field experiments, and MODIS algorithms have been applied to most of these
