§         operational, research …

The Satellite Division of the CPTEC has operational information collected by NOAA-14 (TOVS), NOAA-16(ATOVS), AQUA, TERRA and GOES. One of the research activities is concentrated in inverse problems to retrieve vertical profiles of temperature and moisture using NOAA (ATOVS) and AQUA (AIRS, AMSU) information.

§         status/health

The Satellite Division of the CPTEC develops research activities using satellite measurements, developing methods to retrieve atmospheric and surface variables, for example, winds, temperature, humidity, radiation and precipitation. These activities generate operational information to be used in weather forecast, climate research and for assimilation in PNT models at CPTEC.

§         access: ftp, direct acquisition, dedicated bandwidths, EARS …

The products over Brazil are available on website and they (binary or ASCII files) can be requested by e-mail (satelite@cptec.inpe.br).

Processing  Packages:

§         documentation and formats

Here in Brazil we are using the ITPP (NOAA-14) and ICI (NOAA-16) to retrieve atmospheric profiles. The output files are in binary or ASCII format. For MODIS data we are using IMAPP. In 2005 will be used a Neural Network model to retrieval atmospheric profiles from AIRS information.
