Space-Based GPS Meteorology: GPS Radio Occultation

The Space-based GPS Meteorology is a name given to the body of science and technology, which makes use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) for active remote sensing of the Earth atmosphere. http://www.cosmic.ucar.edu/gpsmet/over/septsumm1.html/ The active limb sounding technique using radio occultation observations is taken by an orbiting GPS receiver. Using the radio occultation technique meteorological profiles (temperature or humidity) can be derived from the measured time delay of the radio signal, or resulting phase shift in the signal received from the GPS transmitter.
