As part of the Met Office's work in the NWP-SAF, a standalone 1DVar retrieval package for nadir sounding instruments has been released. It is called IASI_1DVar, reflecting the original purpose for the code, but may be used with many instruments (it is currently set up for ATOVS, AIRS and IASI but others may be easily added).
The philosophy behind the development of this code was to produce a flexible, stand-alone 1DVar retrieval system that may be used for a wide variety of satellite instruments (so far it has been set up for IASI, ATOVS and AIRS). To facilitate this, there are multiple processing options at various parts of the code with a resultant small increase in complexity compared to what it would be if only one instrument were being considered. It is anticipated that users may want to remove routines that are superfluous to their requirements (or alternatively simply take selected routines) before using this code.
