ITSC-XXI: Darmstadt, Germany, 29 November - 5 December 2017
REGISTER FOR WEEKEND ACTIVITIES

If you wish to join an activity, please click on the linked titles to register and pay for each of these excursions: Walking Tour of the outskirts of Darmstadt, the Visit to Heidelberg, the Visit to Heppenheim, and the Cooking Typical German Cuisine Class. (Link to the English translation can be found in the gray bar toward the bottom of the booking page.) We are planning to organize groups with a maximum 25 persons for each tour on a first come, first served basis. If the number of participants for a tour exceeds 25 at the time of the conference registration deadline, we may be able to add groups. However, last minute registration cannot be guaranteed for organizational reasons. Below you will find possible tourist excursions around Darmstadt that EUMETSAT is offering for the weekend (PDF).

Friday Evening, 1 December

  • Tour of the Darmstadt Christmas Market in the Advent Season (after work, with spouse)
    • Darmstadt's festivities are distinctly international, with visitors from twin towns. Craftwork from Liepaja, Latvia, culinary specialties such as Langos from Hungary or wine and cheese from Saanen, Switzerland turn up the magic factor. At the market square, music plays on the open-air stage
    • Hours: 6.00–7.00 pm
    • Groups: Min. 5 and max. 25 people
    • Meeting Point: Weissturm (white tower), ends with a “Glühwein” (hot spicy red wine)

Saturday Afternoon, 2 December

  • Walking tour in the outskirts of Darmstadt (Please click on the title to register and pay for this excursion)
    • This tour will take you to the romantic “Rose Heights” Park (Rosenhöhe), via Oberfeld farmhouse, stopping at the Steinbrücker Pond to end at the Hunting Lodge in Kranichstein.
    • Visit of the Kranichstein lodge museum
    • Time: approx. 2.00-8:00 pm
    • Groups: Min. 15 people and max. 40 people
    • Price per participant: €30 (incl. Glühwein/hot red wine and Bretzel) without evening meal – alcohol free drink will be also available
    • Return with public transportation – bus F to the City Center (13mn)
    • Option: Evening meal in the Kranichstein restaurant
  • Visit of Heidelberg (Please click on the title to register and pay for this excursion): Guided tour of Heidelberg and its castle/old pharmacy
    • 2.00–8.00 pm (without evening meal – optional)
    • Price: max. €42 per person (incl. transportation by bus and ticket entrances to the castle/old pharmacy) – depending on number of participants
    • Groups: Min. 25 and max. 48 participants
    • Registration will be made via a special Ztix link
    • Deadline for registration – 23 October 2017
    • Optional evening meal in a pre-booked restaurant in Heidelberg – not included in the price

Sunday Afternoon, 3 December

  • Darmstadt at a Glance: A guided tour of Darmstadt in English
    • City walking tour from Luisenplatz to Mathildenhöhe with information about Darmstadt’s past and present and most important sights
    • Time: 2.00–4.00 pm
    • Meeting Point: Darmstadt shop Luisencenter (next to the obelisk)
    • Offered by EUMETSAT

  • Visit of Heppenheim and Wine tasting along the Bergstrasse (Please click on the title to register and pay for this excursion)
    • Time: 2.00–7.00 pm (without evening meal – optional)
      • 3 hours without transport (4-5 hours with transport but without evening meal)
      • 3.00–4.00 pm: Guided tour through idyllic Heppenheim including the Bergstrasse “cathedral”
      • 4.00–5.30 pm: Visit of the “Viniversum” medaled by the German Federal Wine Institute
        • Testing of 6 different wines (including "Odenwälder” specialties) and cold snacks
    • Price: €55 per person (transport by bus included)
    • Groups: Min 25 and max. 44 people
    • Registration will be made via a special Ztix link.
    • Deadline for registration – 23 October 2017
    • Optional evening meal in a pre-booked restaurant in Heppenheim – not included in the price
  • Cooking course – Typical German cuisine (Please click on the title to register and pay for this excursion)
    • Participants will then enjoy a 4 course meal with all self-prepared dishes. Equipment will be provided.
    • Time: 4.00-9.00 pm
    • Price per participant: €100
    • Groups: Min. 14 and max. 30 participants
    • Registration will be made using via a dedicated web link. Payment via bank transfer or PayPal or cash on the first day of the Conference.
    • Registration deadline: 20 October 2017
    • Meeting point: Kochstudio, Wilhelminestrasse 10
