15-16 August 2006 NCSA MSG Simulation

Description:  This simulation was performed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Simulated atmospheric fields were generated using version 2.2 of the WRF model (ARW core).  The simulation was initialized at 18 UTC on 15 August 2006 with 1° GFS data and then run for 30 hours using a single 5950 x 5420 grid point domain with 3-km horizontal grid spacing and 52 vertical levels. The simulation employed the following parameterization schemes:
  • Thompson microphysics
  • Eta planetary boundary layer
  • RRTM/Dudhia radiation
  • NOAH land-surface model
  • Explicit convection (i.e. no cumulus parameterization)

Data Request Information

Due to the large size of the proxy atmospheric profile datasets, it will be necessary for users to limit their requests to specific geographical regions rather than the entire domain if possible. The domain is broken down into a series of "cubes" for each domain, which can be found here. Please include the cube numbers in your data request.
