About the FIRSTT Program
The FIRSTT program is administered by the National Weather Service Office of Meteorology. The goals of FIRSTT are to provide education and training on Integrated Remote Sensing Technologies (WSR-88D, GOES, POES, Profilers, NLDN, ACARS, and emerging technologies) and to evaluate, adapt, learn to integrate, and facilitate the rapid transfer of these technologies from research into operations through programs such as CSTAR.
NEXRAD and GOES Challenges
- Understand the sampling of GOES and NEXRAD systems
- Suggest best merging and combined display (eg, VIS5D)
- Determination of storm top and equilibrium level
- Explore signatures to predict decay of MCS's
- Describe near storm environment from GOES sounder (stability, PW)
- Estimate rainfall with multispectral algorithms
- Evaluate information content of multisensor and model data
