This loop of GOES-8 10.7 micrometer IR imagery shows the intense cluster of convection that moved southeastward across Arkansas during the time leading up to the crash of American Airlines Flight 1420 at 04:50 UTC. Cloud top temperatures were as cold as -60 to -70 C (red to black enhancement) within this convective system.
