This loop of GOES-8 3.9 micron shortwave InfraRed imagery shows erosion of the extensive low cloud deck (light gray feature) across the western Dakotas (from 03:15 to 09:32 UTC), as well as the formation of fog/stratus across southwestern Minnesota/northeastern South Dakota/southeastern North Dakota after about 07:30 UTC. This imagery also reveals the westward motion of low cloud features along the Iowa/Minnesota border into southern South Dakota, even beneath the thin cirrus cloudiness (brighter white) that was overspreading the southern portion of the region.
