This loop of GOES-8 visible imagery shows the northward motion of a low-level mesoscale vortex off the North Carolina coast on 17 September 1998. The first image (at 11:45 UTC) shows the 12:00 UTC ETA model 1000 hPa wind streamline analysis. Surface and ship/buoy reports are also plotted on the imagery. This vortex caused some light rain as the associated cloud bands moved inland.
