(this 2-image Java fading tool will take a minute or two to load...)
Hold the left mouse button down as you drag the slider above the image to fade between the GOES-8 ASADA experimental smoke product and the corresponding GOES-8 visible image from 02 September 1998. Smoke from fires appears hazy in the visible image, and is color-enhanced according to the albedo in the smoke product. The milky haze apparent in the visible image over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of northeastern Brazil is due to sun glint.
Convection over northeastern Argentina produced rain that appeared blue in color, due to the large amount of airborne ash and smoke particulate that was scavenged by the precipitation.
