22 August 1998 -- Heavy Rains Over Texas as Tropical Storm Charley Moves Inland

This 2-image Java applet will take a minute or two to load...

Hold any mouse button down as you move the cursor across the large GOES-8 enhanced visible image; the smaller inset window shows the corresponding GOES-8 10.7 micron IR image. The coldest cloud tops (red to black enhancement, -65 to -75 C) are associated with the central dense overcast portion of the tropical system, while the warm-topped convection of the feeder band (green to yellow, -45 to -55 C) developed to the north of the circulation center.
