Hold the left mouse button down as you drag the slider above the image (or use the arrow buttons) to fade between the GOES-10 3.9 micrometer shortwave InfraRed (IR) image and the corresponding GOES-10 visible image at 16:00 UTC (8:00 AM Pacific time) on 03 January 2001. To zoom, click on the "Zoom" button, and then click the "hand" cursor on the image where you want to center the zoom.
The wildfire "hot spot" (+30 to +50 C, black to red enhancement) is very evident on the shortwave IR image, while the visible channel reveals that the smoke plume was drifting westward across the San Diego, CA (station identifier KMYF) region and out over the Pacific Ocean.
