Madison Breaks a Long-Standing Tornado Drought

As the convection intensified across southern Wisconsin, note how the anvils and overshooting tops were casting shadows onto the airborne smoke layer (which had been transported over the region from fires burning in Alaska, the Yukon Territory, and British Columbia -- see the IDEA website).
