This loop of GOES-11 6.7 micrometer IR ("water vapor") imagery shows an elongated band of cooler brightness temperatures (lighter gray enhancement) oriented NW-SE across MN, IA, and IL on 09 August 2000. This mid-tropspheric feature corresponds to the elevated 10-15 dBZ reflectivity fetures that were detected on regional WSR-88D radars.
GOES-11 is nearing the end of the July-August 2000 Science Test. The satellite is in constant Rapid Scan Operations (RSO) mode, allowing imagery at 5-minute intervals (compared to the standard 15 minute interval imagery normally received from GOES satellites).
