New GOES-8 Sounder Spectral Response Functions...

In September, 1998 SOCC received new spectral response functions for the GOES-8 sounder. They have been plotted here compared to the Calculated HIS Brightness Temperature Spectrum.

GOES-8 compared to GOES-10 Shortwave Sounder Channels 13 & 15...

The GOES-8 and GOES-10 band 13 spectral responses show that GOES-8 and GOES-10 are still dissimilar and that the new GOES-8 response function is shifted slightly to the left of the original (as was the new GOES-10 SRF when it was released). The updated GOES-8 band 15 spectral response shows a larger shift to the left compared to the original.

Note: GOES-8n refers to the spectral response functions released in September, 1998. GOES-10n refers to the spectral response functions released on April 2, 1998. GOES-10699 refers to the spectral response functions released on June 23, 1999.
