I live in San Diego and spend quite a bit of time hiking the local trails. I've noticed some of what this article mentions with regards to the proliferation of non-native plants.

It seems to be especially prevalent in areas where we had massive burn-offs from brush fires over the last few years.

This is terrific information. Anyway we can help students to visualize a meteorological process helps with the analysis and synthesizing processes necessary for learning outcomes.

Western Lake Erie is very shallow (green, yellow, red ares). I would thing that the shallow areas would freeze before the deeper blue areas?

In an email received from Jochen Kerkmann (EUMETSAT), this information from Theo Steenbergen, 16 January 2012:

In the strong westerly flow, a cold front rapidly moved across the North Sea, passing the Dutch coast in the afternoon of 3 January (see Met-9 HRV Animation, 10:00-14:30 UTC, animated GIF, 5718 KB). The front was accompanied with a squall line, visible in the radar image as a narrow band of intense rain. The coastguard ('Rijkswaterstaat') reported a so called meteotsunami at the coast at Ijmuiden, with a sea level change (rise and fall) of over 1.5 meters in 30 minutes.

RE: GOES-15 first full disk visible image

Awesome images! The website has had some vast improvements and info. Great job y'all!
Glad I was surfing the site. Was looking for more info on the current jet stream pattern over North America. Current images for 1/3/12 are rather odd from what I would expect to see.

From the great north woods of NE Michigan

ps. the reCAPTCHA is too difficult to read
