Both the ABI and MSG have a channel with at least a partial purpose of monitoring
vegetation trends. The ABI vegetation channel is centered on 0.86um and has a
50% bandwidth from 0.84um to 0.88um. For a more detailed explanation on the
selection of the ABI 0.86um bandwidth click here. The MSG
vegetation channel is centered on 0.80um and has a 50% bandwidth from 0.782um to 0.838um.
Click here for the MSG webpage.
Below is a difference image of the two channels along with a differnce image histogram.
Also included is a histogram of the ABI and MSG NDVI compared to a single wavelength estimate.
Difference image (ABI 0.86um - MSG 0.80um).
Difference image histogram of the ABI 0.86um and MSG 0.80um.
The above image is a histogram of the NDVI differences using the ABI 0.86um channel
and MSG 0.80um channel. The red band of the NDVI was the ABI 0.64um channel in
both cases, reason being was to only show the differences resulting from the 0.80um/0.86um
channel. The NDVI values were compared to those from a single wavelength estimate.
Note the ABI NDVI has smaller magnitudes of differences, while the MSG NDVI has larger magnitudes
of differences.
