This java loop containing images from a direct MODIS-Aqua broadcast is updated every three hours on the half-hour.  The MODIS images show the spectral resolutions for several bands that are similar to the proposed ABI bands.  The spatial resolution of the ABI bands will range from 0.5 to 2 km, and the MODIS bands used in this simulation are 1 km, thus a technique is employed to downgrade the MODIS data to 2 km spatial resolution.  The MODIS datasets are from an interal direct broadcast source.  You may also Visit the MODIS Direct Broadcast site or View an ABI abstract for AMS.
