AERI-bago Daily Summary
--------------------------
Date: 23 Jul 2002 (Tuesday)
Location: Everglades City, Florida
Operator: Jason Brunner
Weather Conditions:
There was scattered cumulus and cirrus observed at 14:57 UT. By 15:58
UT there was altocumulus and cirrocumulus. Cumulonimbus and anvils were
observed to the east and southeast of the western site at 19:55 UT. A
shower occurred from 21:01 to 21:20 UT. Temperatures were in the upper
80s F.
Instrument Status:
The AERI is working good. There was one problem with the UPS though.
The hatch closed at 21:01 UT in response to the shower. The UPS tripped
the power for the hatch at that time. So the hatch was not able to
re-open once the shower had passed at 21:20 UT. Connor Flynn and I
reset the power and the hatch opened. Connor recommended getting a new
UPS, if possible, before the end of CRYSTAL.
Science:
All planes flew today and there were multiple overpasses by some of the
planes. The WB-57 overpassed the western site around 19:34, 20:00, and
20:15 UT. Contrails were seen from it. The Proteus overpassed around
19:39 UT, and a contrail was seen from it. The ER-2 made overpasses
around 19:40 and 20:50 UT, but the 20:50 UT overpass was not seen from
the ground due to the combination of scattered low level cumulus and a
layer of altocumulus. Also, the Twin Otter made an overpass around
20:05 UT, and the Citation overpassed around 20:24 UT.
Miscellaneous:
It was nice seeing all of the planes.
